Mr. Boris Lifliandchick graduated from the Saint-Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics, and Optics in 1963, with a M.Sc. in mechanical engineering and a specialization in physical optical devices. In 1981, Mr. Lifliandchick obtained a Ph. D. in informational technology from Moscow’s Institute of Scientific and Technical Information. Mr. Lifliandchick obtained a patent agent certificate from the Russian Intellectual Property and Innovations Institute.

Work experience

Mr. Lifliandchik has extensive scientific and practical experience in the protection of intellectual property in various spheres, including: information technology, electronics, laser technology, analytical and medical devices and instruments, as well as environmental protection. Prior to entering the patent law field, Mr. Lifliandchick worked as a marketing manager of a high-tech company and had an opportunity to participate in the St. Petersburg and Italian phases of the TACIS-supported International Work Attachment Programme for SME managers.

Upon entering the patent law field in 1966, Mr. Lifliandchick worked in patent departments of several industrial firms and research institutions, as a patent agent and a technical translator from/to English, French and German, and Russian. Shortly afterwards, Mr. Lifliandchick expanded his professional field to the analysis, assessment, and marketing of intellectual property and participated in several international licensing deals. From 1993-1996, Mr. Lifliandchick worked both as a researcher in IP-related fields at the St. Petersburg’s LETI-Lovanium International School of Management and a manager-consultant of marketing and intellectual property issues for several companies.

As a consultant at ARS-Patent, Mr. Lifliandchick is responsible for completing patent and information searches, analyzing application material, and consulting domestic and international applicants throughout the process of obtaining a patent in the Russian Federation. Mr. Lifliandchik is also involved in ARS-Patent’s intellectual property management, including IP assessment and various intellectual-related agreements, such as cession and license agreements. Mr. Lifliandchick’s opinion is often sought for in relation to complex patentability issues as well as in the adaptation of foreign patent applications to specific Russian patent rules and practice.

Mr. Liflyandchick is an author or co-author of more than 25 scientific papers in Soviet Union, Russian and U.S. Publications, on various Intellectual Property subjects, including: the patentability under Russian and American patent laws, assessment and prognosis of intellectual property trends, employment of patents as a strategic and an intelligence tool in business, and other IP and business intelligence-related topics. Furthermore, Mr. Liflyandchick has numerous published and unpublished industry analyses and forecasts, both in Russian and English. He has also translated and adapted into Russian J.J. Lambin’s “Le marketing strategique”, which was published in Russia in 1996.
