Education

In 2008, graduated with honors from the Faculty of Physics of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Department of Optics and Spectroscopy, with a degree in physics.

In 2008-2009, successfully completed the ‘General Course on Intellectual Property’ of WIPO Academy and ‘Training of experts for carrying out professional activity – consideration of applications for inventions, utility models, industrial designs’ of Russian State Institute of Intellectual Property.

In 2012, was awarded the scientific degree of Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, speciality – Optics.

In 2013, successfully passed the qualification exams and was certified as the Russian Patent Attorney, Reg. # 1536 with specialization ‘Inventions and Utility Models’.

In 2017, obtained a second degree in the field of psychological counseling in the Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Personnel of RUDN University (Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia).

In 2020, completed a postgraduate course at the research and educational center of Federal Institute for Industrial Property under the programme ‘Recommendations on the management of intellectual property rights and means of individualization in the regions of the Russian Federation’.

In 2021, successfully completed the advanced training programme ‘Mediation. Basic course’ at the International Institute of Management for Business Associations under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and operates as a professional mediator according to Federal act of July 27, 2010 No. 193.

In 2022, completed the advanced training programme ‘Patent analytics’ at the research and educational center of Federal Institute for Industrial Property.

Practice

In the last years of university and during the postgraduate studies, Marina Chugunova had been working for 6 years as a state patent expert at the department of energy of the Federal Institute for Industrial Property. She conducted patent searches, assessed the patentability of applications, participated in the consideration of appeals at the Chamber of Patent Disputes. After getting her PhD degree, Marina Chugunova worked as a research physicist at the Scientific and Production Centre ‘Spectrolux’ LLC, where she was engaged in the development of luminescent diagnostic equipment for medical use.

Since 2012, Marina Chugunova has been engaged in scientific work on ensuring the uniformity of atomic spectral measurements at the Federal State Unitary Enterprise ‘VNIIOFI’ (subordinate institution of Rosstandard), being now the leading researcher. All the while, she has been working in private patent practice. Dozens of patent searches and over 800 applications with decisions on patent grant are on her account. Marina Chugunova pays particular attention to establishment of a healthy market of IP in Russia by means of organizing interdepartmental interaction, popularization of IP, and above all raising awareness of domestic manufacturers, including the quality of their patent portfolios.

Marina Chugunova is the head of the working group for actualization of the GOST R 15.011.

She has been working in ARS-Patent since 2018.
