Russia joined the International Act on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications

The Russian Government adopted the Law on Russia’s accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on appellations of origin and geographical indications.

To date, the Geneva Act applies to 34 member countries, including countries of the European Union.

The Lisbon System of international registration of appellations of origin and geographical indications provides obtaining protection in member countries by filing a single application in one language and with one set of fees which allows keeping costs down.

By joining the Geneva Act, Russia obtains new opportunities for economic development of the regions and support of the local manufacturers as well as enhance the presence within international IP area.
